A son of a Philippine National Police official and his friend were killed early yesterday morning after their car crashed into an electric post in Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City.
Victim Israel Ylagan, 20, son of Superintendent Nestor Ylagan, sustained fatal body and head injuries and died on the spot. His friend Leonardo Abacan, was pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Agnes Hospital.
A third companion, Benny Balayan, 21, is now in critical condition at the same hospital. Investigators said that Ylagans car, a Colt Mirage (PBK-940), was a total wreck. Superintendent Ylagan is said to be the former PNR provincial director in Leyte.
According to reports, Israel earlier had dinner with his father. Before leaving for a night out with Abacan and Balayan, the elder Ylagan gave his son a hug and told him to "take care."
Investigation showed that the incident occurred at about 12:45 a.m., along Pitimini Street corner Roosevelt Avenue, near the Jehovahs Witness Watch Tower.
Ylagan and his friends were all reportedly drunk at the time, investigators said.
Probers said Ylagans car was speeding when it suddenly lost control and crashed into an electric post. Witnesses said the impact was so strong that Ylagan was thrown about 10 feet away from the car. He died instantly.
Meanwhile, Pasig Rep. Henry Llanot was injured yesterday morning after his vehicle crashed into a pile of road construction materials outside the Batasang Pambansa along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
Llanot, sustained minor bruises and a bleeding nose and had to undergo medical treatment at the Philippine Heart Center. He was driving alone when his silver Starex van (ZNE-928) smashed into a pile of gravel and sand. Matthew Estabillo and Nikko Dizon
