Gang wars kill two in last 2 days

Two more persons were killed in separate street gang wars in Manila and Caloocan City in the past two days.

In Manila, a 22-year-old man was shot dead during a riot between two fraternities in Sta. Cruz, yesterday morning. The fatality was identified as Joseph Chu, single, a member of the "Simple Triangle Brothers" and a resident of 938 Oroquieta St., Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Investigators said Chu’s assailants, belonging to the "True Brown Style" gang, escaped after the incident. One of them was identified as Correl Miclat, 22, of Felix Huertas St., Sta. Cruz.

Police said Chu and six of his fraternity brothers were hanging out in a mini-store at the corner of Rizal Avenue and Quiricada streets when the suspects’ group suddenly hurled two homemade bombs at them at around 2 a.m. No one was hurt when the bombs exploded.

However, the victim’s group retaliated by throwing stones at the suspects during which a riot erupted. At the height of the riot, gunshots rang out and Chu fell to the ground bleeding.

Meanwhile, after killing of a 15-year-old student killed by rival fratmen in Caloocan City a few days ago when another young man was shot dead by two frat members Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Restly Ilay, 22, a native of Isabela, residing at 1461 DM Compound, Heroes del ’96 street, Caloocan City. Ilay succumbed to three gunshot wounds in the back from a caliber .38 revolver.

The suspect were identified as Joel Arriola and a certain "Melvin", neighbors of the victim. Police said the incident took place at around 11:15 p.m. along Heroes del ’96 Street. – Cecile Suerte Felipe and Jerry Botial
