Woman splashes acid on lover’s face

A 43-year-old woman, who had had enough of his live-in partner’s alleged womanizing, threw acid on the man’s face, not only once but twice, to show she really meant business yesterday morning.

She was later arrested and jailed by the police in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Police Sub-station 4 commander Superintendent Enrique Robles Sr. said Nimpha Orlino, 43, of Phase 2, Package 2, Block 53, Lot 6, Barangay Bagong Silang, overwhelmed by seething rage and jealousy, fainted twice in her detention cell where she was taken after the acid-throwing incident.

Under observation at the Nodadas Medical Center for severe acid burns is victim Teodorico Resurreccion, 49, single and allegedly cohabiting with Orlino.

PO3 Alex Barroga said the couple were engaged in a heated argument at around 9 a.m. as the wife nagged her husband over his alleged womanizing. The man reportedly resented being questioned about his liaisons with other women which further incensed his partner.

Blinded by rage, the woman got hold of a bottle of acid and threw its contents at the man’s face.

The man writhed, crying out in pain and called on his neighbors for help. Alarmed neighbors took pity and brought him to the nearest hospital, witnesses told probers.

Still unsatisfied, the woman reportedly followed the man to the hospital and at the first opportunity, again doused the man’s face with the corrosive liquid.

Robles said appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect pending the results of further investigation.

Meanwhile, a one-year-old baby girl died yesterday after accidentally drinking a cup of a cyanide-based chemical solution used in cleaning jewelry inside their house in Tondo, Manila.

Police investigators identified the victim as Lady Bianca Ignacio.

According to investigators, the victim’s mother, Millet, 19, was cleaning some pieces of jewelry at the kitchen sink of their house in 1048 Solis St. at about 11 a.m. when she decided to get something outside.

Police said Millet returned some 10 minutes later and was shocked to see her daughter already lying on the kitchen floor with her mouth frothing. The cup of the cleaning solution was also on the floor.

The young victim was rushed to the Ospital ng Tondo for treatment but was declared dead after 30 minutes.

Investigators theorize that the victim might have drunk the poisonous cleaner out of curiosity. – Jerry Botial and Mike Frialde
