P15 M lost in 2-hour fire

An estimated P15 million worth of property went up in smoke in a two-hour fire in an empty plastics factory in Valenzuela City before dawn yesterday.

Chief Inspector Efren Yadao, Valenzuela City fire marshal, said that the Golden Sun Manufacturing Co., located at 77-B A. Pablo street in Barangay Karuhatan, owned by a certain Mr. Chua, was totally razed to the ground including all of its equipment.

The fire reportedly started at around 12:52 a.m. and swiftly engulfed the whole building, arson investigators Senior Fire Officers 1 Edgardo Hingco and Juinio de la Cruz said.

"Nothing was salvaged from the factory as it was unmanned," Hingco said.

Hingco said that Golden Sun was engaged in manufacturing plastic kitchen utensils and plastic hangers.

"The finished products as well as the raw materials inside the building were highly combustible that’s why almost everything inside went up in smoke including its machinery," Hingco said.

The blaze reached the fifth alarm level and was declared out at around 2:57 a.m. –Pete Laude
