Mrs. Imelda Aguilar, wife of Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar and the City Nutrition Action Office received the 1st ‘Maintenance’ CROWN award from the President.
Las Piñas is the only recipient of the award in the city level category in the National Capital Region.
Last year, Las Piñas also won the CROWN award for its outstanding implementation of nutrition program for three consecutive years from 1997-1999.
The award, according to Mayor Aguilar is a manifestation of his sincere desire to provide better health and nutrition to residents, especially children from depressed communities who are common victims of malnutrition.
Mayor Aguilar has established more than 60 day-care and nutrition centers in almost all the barangays in Las Piñas where children’s health and nutrition are properly taken care of.
Records at the City Nutrition Office show that malnutrition in Las Piñas children has continuously declined, from 21.4 percent in 1995 to less than one percent this year.
Aguilar expressed gratitude to his wife, Mel Aguilar, who chairs the Las Piñas City Nutrition Council for being instrumental in the success of the city’s nutrition program.
