BFP moves to identify more fire code violators

The Bureau of Fire Protection sought the assistance of the public as it launched a campaign to ferret out violators of the Fire and Building Code of the Philippines.

In a statement, BFP Acting Chief Francisco Senot urged the public to report to the BFP national emergency hotline (117) and BFP regional and district offices any unsafe structures, buildings, establishments that put the lives and safety of the community in clear and imminent danger.

At the same time, Senot also exhorted the public to report any neglect of duty or abuse of power on the part of BFP personnel.

As part of the national campaign, Senot said the bureau will continue to inspect buildings and establishments to identify those which have not complied with the requirements of the Fire Code.

He said the compliance will be closely monitored and the bureau will take immediate action if they fail to comply within the prescribed period allowed by law.

It will be recalled BFP prepared a list of buildings in the National Capital Region for closure for gross violations of the Fire Code.

Senot said he is still awaiting the reports of various regional offices to enable the bureau to prepare a consolidated list of buildings or establishments for closure.
