School says it has backing of residents

Proponents of the Paref-Northfield school in Barangay Ugong Norte in Quezon City claimed they have the support of homeowners in the area, contrary to published reports.

In a press statement, PAREF-Northfield said it seeks to put up a school in Green Meadows III where half of the high school population will be allocated for scholars to be chosen from poor but deserving youths in Quezon City.

Green Meadows II residents had opposed the establishment of the school, saying it would create a huge traffic mess in the area. They also accused the proponents of the school of allegedly "railroading" a resolution of the former Quezon City Council giving the school undue advantages.

In the statement, PAREF-Northfield said it will be putting in place measures that will ensure that traffic congestion is kept to a minimum. "We are afraid that something as important as the education of our children and the building of our communities is being subjected to a scare campaign on, of all things, traffic," a school official said.
