A former Manila policeman turned carpenter was stabbed in Binondo, Manila yesterday by unidentified kris-wielding men and died inside his home after fighting off his assailants.
Former Western Police District (WPD) police, Ruben Villapa, 45, sustained a fatal stab wound in the chest and a laceration on his left arm after he was attacked by two men while buying bread along Recto Avenue, Binondo.
Villapa had just come home with a fellow carpenter after working at a relatives home in Alabang, Muntinlupa when he went out to buy bread at the nearby store.
Police said the killing occurred at about 4 a.m. at the corner of Interior and Recto Avenue where the assailants were waiting for him and stabbed him.
Witnesses said Villapa managed to grab a small table at the site and smashed it against one of the suspects despite his injuries. He fled afterwards and managed to reach the second floor of his home but slumped dead on the floor. His attackers escaped. Jose Aravilla
