Bomb scare hits Makati food joint

Customers of a popular fastfood chain in Makati City rushed into the streets after a package believed to be a bomb was discovered inside the restaurant’s toilet.

According to Southern Police District chief, Senior Superintendent Jose Gutierrez, Jr., the management of a McDonald’s branch at the corner of Jupiter Street and Makati Avenue called in the suspected bomb at around 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

The package was discovered in the ladies room by a crew member. It was described as a plastic bag containing wires and some old batteries.

Members of the Explosives and Ordnance Team of the Makati City police were quick to arrive at the scene and carefully inspected the package. At around 4:10 p.m., the bomb squad were able to successfully remove the package from the restaurant.

According to Gutierrez, the chief of police of Makati City, Superintendent Jovito Gutierrez, reported that the package contained only wires and old batteries and no explosive device was attached. Marvin Sy
