Car parts stores ordered watched

Metro Manila police chief Deputy Director General Edgar Galvante ordered yesterday a close watch on all second hand vehicle spare parts stores amid reports of growing car theft cases, particularly in Quezon City.

Barely a month in office, Galvante visited district police headquarters in Metro Manila to know first hand their problems on personnel and equipment; and rising car theft cases was among those brought up.

Galvante said car theft syndicates are getting bolder and are not only taking new cars in parking lots of commercial centers but also old ones.

Because of this, Galvante directed Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Tor, head of the Central Police District (CPD) and the four other district directors to implement measures to make "life harder for the car theft thieves."

"We noted that car thieves are not only taking luxury vehicles but also old ones whose parts are sold to different outlets in Metro Manila," said Galvante in a telephone interview.

Among the second hand spare parts stores being watched by Galvante’s men are those in Banaue, Quezon City; Evangelista in Makati City; EDSA in Pasay City and a portion of the Northern Police District area. – Non Alquitran
