A seaman who reportedly criticized his drinking buddys sloppy job of installing a kitchen sink paid dearly for making the comment after he was mauled to death by the latter yesterday in Valenzuela City.
Police identified the victim as Rogelio Tupaz, 43, of Block 4, Lot 5, Azicate Homes, Gen. T. de Leon. There were unconfirmed reports that Tupaz and suspect Roberto Cerrudo, also of the same address, were brothers-in-law.
Investigation showed that the incident happened at around 12:05 a.m. While the two were having a drinking spree, Tupaz reportedly chided Cerrudo for improperly installing the kitchen sink.
A heated argument ensued between the two which led to a fist fight, the police said. The suspect reportedly got hold of a hard object and struck Tupaz in the face. The victim fell bleeding to the ground.
Tupaz was taken to the Valenzuela General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The victim sustained severe contusions in the face.
Inspector Salvador de la Cruz, Valenzuela police Station Investigation Branch (SIB), chief, said Cerrudo is now in an undisclosed hospital seeking treatment for his wounds and that police are set to arrest him. Cerrudo faces homicide charges. Nikko Dizon
