Student mistaken for a rival gang member shot

Police are now hunting down four members of a street fraternity gang who reportedly shot and stabbed an 18-year-old male student allegedly mistaken for a member of a rival gang past midnight yesterday in Sampaloc, Manila.

The victim, Rommel Perez, of 1464 San Diego st., Sampaloc, was allowed to go home after being treated at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for a superficial stab wound on the right side of the body and a gunshot wound on the right arm.

Perez told investigators he was playing computer games at a shop located at the corner of Metrica and Laong-Laan streets in Sampaloc at about 1:30 a.m. when four men barged in looking for somebody.

Perez said he knew the four as members of a street fraternity gang notorious for engaging in frequent rumbles with rival gangs in the area.

Perez said that one of the suspects, whom he identified as a certain Bryan alias "Mata," shot him but he was able to parry the gun, hitting him instead in the right arm.

Before escaping, another suspect stabbed him at the back.

Residents who heard the gunshot took Perez to the hospital. Nestor Etolle
