Cops: What crime wave?

-
Philippine National Police chief Director General Leandro Mendoza said yesterday that there is no increase in the incidence of crime in Metro Manila as alleged by certain groups.

Mendoza, in a report to the mayors of Metro Manila, said the allegation is overblown as there is no cause for concern. He told the mayors during a Metro Manila Council meeting that the problem is more of "perception rather than reality."

Mendoza was reacting to the concerns raised by groups such as that of the Filipino-Chinese community represented by Teresita Ang-See.

Ang-See claimed the other day that there has been an increase in the incidence of kidnapping in Metro Manila since the assumption of the new administration. – Marvin Sy and Jose Aravilla
