Grandma, pal arrested for shabu

A 65-year-old grandmother and her neighbor were arrested for peddling shabu in Malabon City Monday afternoon.

Police said suspects Purificacion Francisco, a widow, of 113 Adante St., Barangay Taniong, and Virgilio Angeles, 43, of 77 Adante St., yielded an estimated 15 grams of shabu packed in small sachets. Each sachet is reportedly priced at P200, the police said.

The buy bust was conducted by operatives of the Malabon police Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) at around 4 p.m. along Adante Street, said Inspector Virgilio Olalia, Jr. of the CEU.

An informant tipped the police off about the suspects’ illegal activities.

The suspects were reportedly among those who lost their homes in a huge fire that razed a squatter’s colony in Malabon last April.

Reports said Francisco used the money she earned from selling shabu to buy food for her grandchildren. Angeles has been arrested three times for drug pushing, the police added. Francisco and Angeles are now detained at the city jail and are facing drug charges.

Also in Malabon a 33-year-old security guard allegedly went berserk early yesterday morning after having one alcoholic drink too many, the police said.

Police identified the suspect as Gilbert Morales of 43 Pineapple Road, Barangay Potrero. Case investigator PO2 Peter Rios said Morales was having a drinking session with four other men at around 3 a.m. inside his house, when he allegedly went wild due to his drunkenness.

Morales reportedly took his service firearm and fired three times into the air.

Not contended, Rios said the suspect shouted at his neighbors and threatened to shoot them. – Nikko Dizon
