Reports reaching the homicide section of the Western Police District identified the fatality as Ke Tin Yang, a native of Fujian, China. Wounded in the incident were Senior Police Officer 2 Jesus Camacho, 45, assigned with the WPD-District Police Intelligence Unit; and Miguel Go, 33, machine operator. Both were shot in the legs by Ke and were rushed to the Metropolitan General Hospital.
Police investigation showed that Ke and several unidentified men came out of the Top Royal KTV Music Lounge and Health Center located at Tomas Mapua St. at about 2:30 a.m. and later had a heated argument.
During the argument, Ke, police said, pulled out a 9 mm HK USP compact pistol and opened fire at the other men. Camacho, who was walking nearby, heard the commotion and fired a warning shot.
However, instead of yielding, Ke, allegedly also opened fire at Camacho, wounding him and Go, a bystander. Ke then fled the scene on foot.
Ke was seen running away by SPO4 Rizalino Morales who gave chase. Morales radioed for assistance and was joined in the chase by elements of the Juan Luna Police Community Precinct.
The policemen scoured the parking area on Sacatero street in Binondo and found the still-armed Ke hiding under a car.
The cops claimed they introduced themselves as law enforcers and ordered Ke to lay down his pistol and surrender. But after a brief negotiation, the suspect allegedly shot himself in the right temple. – Mike Frialde
