Authorities tagged yesterday an inspector of the Western Police District as responsible for the massacre in Novaliches, Quezon City Tuesday night which left five people dead.
Inspector Alexander Navarette, of WPD-Station 1, voluntarily surrendered to his superiors, and is now detained at the Central Police District Headquarters.
Charges of multiple homicide are being readied against Navarette, who arrived with his lawyer, and refused to answer questions from reporters.
"We were supposed to arrest him last night, but he told us that he would turn himself in the next morning," said Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Jaraza of the CPD.
Jaraza added that a manhunt is still on for another suspect, Armand Sy, who escaped right after his bloody birthday party at home the other night.
Navarette and Sy are tagged as responsible for the killing of five middle-aged people during the birthday party in Novaliches, Quezon City.
The victims sustained gunshot and stab wounds and died on the spot.
The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. in Sy’s house on Jose Abad Santos street in Sta Lucia. Sy was celebrating his birthday with Navarette and other guests, when he invited Untalan and her male friends to join them.
During the drinking, Navarette allegedly had an argument with one of the victims. At the height of their argument, the suspects and other guests pulled out firearms and bladed weapons and attacked the victims, who by then were all reportedly drunk.
Lauro Adolfo, Eufenio Barcelona, Rudy Fuentes, Virgilio Santiago, and Untalan all suffered bullet wounds in the head and body. Untalan reportedly expired before she reached the hospital.
After the incident, Navarette and Sy were nowhere to be found, which prompted the Central Police District operatives to launch a manhunt for them.
