4 slay young driver, take P100,000

-
Four unidentified men carted off some P100,000 in cash after shooting a driver dead along Kalayaan Extension in Makati City yesterday morning.

Inspector Florante Jose, of the Makati Police disclosed that the incident took place at around 2 a.m. at the corner of Kalayaan Extension and C-5 Road in Barangay East Rembo.

The fatality was Jonathan Caguitla, 23, of Tilambo, Taysan, Batangas City. PO2 John Cho Ramirez, said that the victim was driving an Isuzu Elf truck, together with his father Thomas and cousin Cornelio Lopez, on their way to Taysan, Batangas.

The three men had just closed their stall at the Pasig City Public Market and were going to Batangas to buy some cows.

As they reached the intersection of Kalayaan Extension and C-5 Road, the traffic light turned red.

The four suspects, on board a tricycle and armed with handguns, pulled up beside the truck and shot the driver.

Then they took the P100,000 in cash from the passengers and vanished into the night.

The victim was shot in the chin and was declared dead on arrival at the Rizal Medical Center.

Inspector Jose noted that the suspects had probably been tipped off by an informant about the cash carried by the victims.

Meanwhile, another robbery took place in a Karpet Kleen Inc. branch in Makati City last Friday at around 10:45 a.m. in the Laureano Building, at 2216 Pasong Tamo, across Don Bosco College.

According to Jocelyn Vargas, manager of the branch, three men entered the shop armed with handguns and announced the holdup.

Two of the men served as lookouts as the third person divested the cashier of P200,000 in cash, and customers of their mobile phones and jewelry.

After this, the three men boarded a waiting Toyota Revo and escaped. – Marvin Sy
