5 NBI agents maul Manila cop moonlighting as cabbie

- Mike Frialde -
A Manila policeman moonlighting as a taxi driver filed physical injury charges against five agents of the National Bureau of Investigation who allegedly beat him up the other night.

Police identified the suspects as Flor Resurrecion, Orlando Enriquez, Allan Linol, Gary Ruiz and Leo del Rosario, all assigned with the NBI’s Anti-Illegal Recruitment Division.

According to Police Officer 3 Joseph Abraham, 36, of 290 San Ignacio St., Sta. Mesa, Manila, detailed with the Western Police District’s Tactical Operations Center, he was driving his taxi with plate number UST-125 along Cabildo St. in Intramuros at about 8:30 p.m. when he was flagged down by two of the suspects.

Abraham said he told the men to look for another cab as he was already on his way to the police headquarters for his night shift.

But one of the two unidentified men suddenly slapped him with his badge and introduced himself as an NBI agent and demanded that they be allowed to ride the cab.

Irked, Abraham tried to pull out his 9 mm service pistol to arrest the suspects but the two unidentified men fled to the Commission on Elections building.

Fearing that the suspects might be armed, Abraham called-up headquarters and asked for a mobile unit.

While waiting for the arrival of the mobile unit, suspects Resurrecion, Ruiz, Linol, Enriquez and Del Rosario arrived at the scene aboard a Tamaraw FX van. The suspects introduced themselves as NBI agents and allegedly confiscated the victim’s gun.

Abraham alleged that after taking his gun, the five suspects ganged up on him and beat him up. They only stopped upon the arrival of the police prowl car, the victim said.

The five suspects were taken to the General Assignments Section for investigation but were later released for further investigation.
