Akyat Bahay Gang strikes in Malabon

A medical representative lost some P500,000 worth of jewelry and cash after robbers broke into her house before dawn Wednesday in Malabon City.

Investigation showed that the suspects, allegedly Akyat Bahay Gang members, sneaked into the house of Evangeline Rivero, 27, single, of No. 1 Sta. Ana St., Sto Rosario Village, Barangay Baritan, Malabon at around 3 a.m.

Aside from P500,000 worth of jewelry, Rivero also lost cash amounting to P5,300.

Police said the suspects entered Rivero’s house by climbing up the terrace and passing through an open bedroom window.

Meanwhile, the bloated body of a two-month-old baby girl was found floating in a drainage in Potrero, Malabon at around noon the same day.

Police said a certain Lina Balayan-Adorio, 33, of Daang Bakal, Potrero, Malabon called up the Malabon police station at around 12:35 p.m. to report that she discovered the dead infant and floating in front of her house. Her neighbors fished out the decomposing body. Rodents have reportedly feasted on it, the police said.

According to case investigator PO2 Redentor Mantala, the infant could have been in the drainage for two to three days before it was discovered. He added that while the baby may have accidentally fallen into the drainage, police are most inclined to believe that someone purposely abandoned the baby.

"If the baby accidentally fell into the drainage, then somebody should have already alerted the police about a missing child. However, nobody has made any report nor were there inquiries about a missing infant as well," Mantala said in Filipino. The body was brought to the PNP crime laboratory for autopsy.– Nikko Dizon
