Driver resists holdup, is killed

A 60-year-old taxi driver paid with his life after he refused to give up his day’s earnings to two unidentified men last Wednesday in Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

Panfilo Balag, a resident of 63 Visayas St. Barangay Payatas, sustained stab wounds in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Police are now conducting a manhunt for the two suspects, identified only as "Caesar" and "Roy," who immediately fled after the stabbing.

Reports showed that the incident took place at about 2 a.m. at 18 Kaibigan St. Barangay Batasan Hills. Balag had just unloaded the baggae of a female passenger and was about to to leave when the two suspects appeared.

Armed with fan knives, the men demanded Balag to give them his earnings for the day. The victim, however, resisted and tried to shout for help. This prompted the suspects to lunge for Balag.

The robbers repeatedly stabbed the helpless victim in different parts of the body as Balag collapsed to the ground. The suspects took Balag’s money and fled the scene.

He was taken to the hospital where he expired at about 2:30 a.m. Matthew Estabillo
