Drunken peeping tom cause of Tondo fire

A drunk, candle-bearing, peeping tom who spied on his young sister-in-law, allegedly started an early morning fire in Tondo, Manila that claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman.

Police reports identified the suspect, who was arrested shortly after the incident, as Romero Macamay, 31, a paroled convict, of 213 Bagong Alay st., Del Pan, Tondo.

The fatality was identified as Elena Garcia, 55, of 216 Bagong Alay st., Del Pan, Tondo.

According to reports, Macamay was allegedly peeping at his young sister-in-law, who was bathing, using a candlelight at about 1:08 a.m. when he allegedly got excited and dropped the candle on the floor.

The candle immediately started a fire in the suspect’s house which quickly spread through 14 other houses made of light materials, including that of Garcia’s. – Mike Frialde
