Makati water traders told to submit regular samples
March 24, 2001 | 12:00am
Makati Mayor Elenita Binay reminded yesterday owners of water refilling stations and operators of water delivery tankers to submit samples for monthly testing at the Makati City Health Department.
The directive is specified in Ordinance No. 98-032 passed during the term of former Mayor Jejomar Binay.
The lady mayor said the ordinance is to assure the public that water they are selling is fit for human consumption and following international standards, noting that high chlorine levels and other contaminants can be dangerous to consumers.
The said ordinance likewise empowers the Makati Health Department to conduct periodic or on-the-spot inspection of the facilities of bottled water refilling stations, including water delivery tankers in the city and secure water samples for laboratory analysis at any reasonable hour of the day, and set testing/analysis standards.
Failure or refusal on the part of the traders to submit samples shall be penalized with the following: warning for the first offense, P3,000 fine for the second, and P5,000 fine or revocation of business permit for the third.
