QC Hall cop detachment head sacked

Quezon City Hall police detachment head Chief Inspector Rodolfo Hernandez was relieved yesterday from his post while 10 of his men were reprimanded for allegedly having a drinking spree inside their office last Saturday.

NCR Police Deputy Director General Romeo Peña ordered yesterday the immediate sacking of Hernandez after he was caught by officers of the Regional Mobile Group drinking liquor inside his office with other members of the detachment.

According to Central Police District director Chief Superintendent Victor Luga, Hernandez was celebrating his birthday last Saturday.

In an interview, Luga said the detachment commander and other policemen came from a shooting practice at Camp Karingal last Saturday and went straight to the detachment office to celebrate Hernandez’s birthday.

Hernandez, who had his family with him at the time, was reportedly drinking liquor with his men at about 4 p.m. Reports said some policemen were drunk and were being rowdy inside the office.

Someone tipped-off members of the Regional Mobile Group, who came barging into the detachment office. Luga said the RMG officers found Hernandez and his men "in the act of drinking beer."

"This is a very unfortunate incident because as police officers, they should very well know that drinking is strictly prohibited inside offices. I hope they have learned their lesson," Luga said.

Senior Inspector Ronald Bulalacao was tapped to temporarily head the city hall detachment, while Hernandez is awaiting a new assignment. Matthew Estabillo
