Pasay nightclub gets help from judge

A Pasay City judge issued a temporary restraining order against Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad’s order closing a nightclub for featuring bold shows.

Judge Manuel Dumatol granted last Friday the petition for a TRO by the Miss Universal Theater and KTV Inc. (MUTKI), represented by Hau Kan, its president, paving the way for the establishment’s reopening over the weekend.

The nightclub’s management had filed a case in the Pasay City Regional Trial Court against Trinidad and Pasay police chief, Superintendent Alejandro Gutierrez, for the alleged "unconstitutional and unfair closure" of the nightclub.

In their complaint, MUTKI said Trinidad’s closure order issued last Feb. 23 violated their constitutional rights since they were not given the chance to give their side and contest the order which they said is the usual practice in such cases.

Trinidad issued his order after GMA TV Channel 7’s Imbestigador showed footages of nude shows inside the nightclub. The show’s cameramen took the footages when they joined the Southern Police District’s Feb. 20 raid where two "models" were arrested for dancing in the nude while five others were arrested for having no working permits.

Despite the television footage, MUTKI denied that they feature lewd shows. Rainier Allan Ronda
