Its Tinga vs Papa in Taguig
March 5, 2001 | 12:00am
A son of former Taguig-Pateros Rep. Dante Tinga will challenge Mayor Ricardo Papa for the municipalitys mayoralty race this May 14 elections.
Sigfrido "Freddy" Tinga, 35, will run under the Kilusang Diwa ng Taguig and will have lawyer George Elias as his running mate.
"I am offering my services and expertise to the people of Taguig who have been shortchanged by the present town leadership. The town has showed no signs of development and has been left behind by our neighbors," Tinga said.
It will be recalled that the young Tingas father lost to Papa in the 1998 elections.
"I think there is regret among my town mates and they want change. And I think that the last elections was frought with massive fraud resulting to the current situation," Tinga said.
Tinga is currently the managing director of an international information technology firm. He has an economics degree from the University of the Philippines and is an MBA degree holder from the University of Oregon. He is a former professor at the state universitys Graduate School of Business.
Papa, for his part, shrugged off the criticisms of Tinga. "I am looking forward to beating him also," Papa said.
"The people of Taguig had seen what I can do and I believe they want me to continue my programs," Papa, who will run again under the Lakas-NUCD-UMDP-Peoples Power Coalition party, said. Rainier Allan Ronda
