Evangelist urges competence

-
An evangelist leader yesterday called on political groups in Manila to come up with candidates who can stand public scrutiny because of competence, integrity and moral ascendancy.

Dr. Benny Abante, former Manila councilor and commissioner of the Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor, said it is the obligation of mayoralty candidates to include only candidates in their respective tickets who have proven track records of leadership. "Smugglers, drug lords, gambling lords and shady characters should have no place in Manila politics," he stressed.

Abante, who has been selected official candidate for congressman in the 6th district of the administration party Lakas-NUCD-UMDP Kampi and the unified coalition, also said it will be unfortunate if people of doubtful character win elective posts in the city.

Abante emphasized that the city of Manila should lead in the crusade for better governance and transparent leadership. He commended efforts being undertaken by former Manila Mayor Mel Lopez to form a unified coalition ticket for the administration party.
