Senior Inspector Wilfredo Calderon, Parañaque police community precinct 4 chief, was jogging along the said avenue at around 5 a.m. when he saw a man walking and holding a gun.
Calderon approached the man, and inquired if the fellow had the required papers and permits for his firearm, Suddenly, the latter’s six companions appeared from an alley and started beating him up.
The mauling ended when motorists and pedestrians appeared and shouted at the police officer‘s attackers to stop.
Calderon sought his men‘s assistance at their precinct nearby, located along the same avenue, and they were able to catch two of the seven men.
Arrested were Rodolfo Almano, 29, bus driver, of Carmona, Cavite; and Jose Obia, 32, mechanic, of Barangay San Antonio Valley 1, Sucat.
They identified their gun-toting friend only as a certain "Rio."
Police are now conducting follow-up operations against the remaining suspects while appropriate charges are being readied against the two arrested men.
In another development, two men were also arrested the other day in Makati City for possession of shabu.
Police Officer 2 Rey Memoracion of the Makati police Drug Enforcement Unit said they received a telephone call from a concerned resident of Barangay Guadalupe Viejo at 9 p.m. Saturday.
The DEU agents rushed to the scene, a depressed area of the barangay, and arrested the alleged drug pushers: Ariel Reyes, 22, single, jobless; and his cousin Eduardo Espino, 33, separated, painter, both of Coronado street, in the said barangay.
The two yielded 450 grams of shabu.
They are now detained at the Makati police detention center while drug pushing charges are being readied against them.
