"Let us give him another chance. After all, he did commendable work in tracking down and arresting the escaped suspects. Besides, he still enjoys the confidence of the Binondo businessmen," Razon said.
De Guzman and three of his fellow station officers, Inspector Alfredo Opriasa, night-shift platoon commander; SPO4 Danilo Hermosura, night-shift duty investigator; and SPO4 Renato Romero duty-desk officer were ordered relieved and investigated by Razon following the escape of 10 inmates from the station’s detention cell early last Friday morning.
The sacked officers were transferred to the WPD headquarters’ Civil Disturbance Management Unit on Razon’s order following the jailbreak. So far, agents of the Binondo police station have been able to re-arrest six of the 10 escaped detainees.
Re-arrested were Raul Samarro, Dennis Corpin, Virgilio Ibarle, Jomel Rosaroso, Nazareno Carsena and Dan Logo. Samarro and Corpin were nabbed at the Parola Compound in Tondo, Manila, just hours after their escape. Carsena was re-arrested also that same day in Escolta, Manila.
Last Sunday, police re-arrested Ibarle at Islang Puting Bato in Tondo while Rosaroso and Logo were nabbed last Monday. Rosaroso was re-arrested in Novaliches, Quezon City while Logo was nabbed in his hideout in Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Still being hunted down are Tommy Mejia, Marvin Bondoc, Ernesto Cerito and Bartolome Rosaroso. The inmates are facing robbery and theft charges.
According to reports, the inmates escaped at about 1:30 a.m. last Friday by bending two rusty steel bars of their cell. The duty jail guard, Senior Police Officer 1 Hilarion del Rosario was sick and reserve jail guard Police Officer 3 Marcel Hofilena, was also sick and absent when the jail break happened. – Mike Frialde
