Ensure basic services, mayors told

-
Moments after Vice President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was sworn in as the new President of the Republic, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Jejomar Binay called on all of the Metro mayors to continue rendering all essential basic services to the public.

In a memorandum issued yesterday to the mayors of the 17 cities and municipalities, Binay requested for the continuance of the delivery of basic services particularly solid waste collection and disposal as well as traffic and transport management.

"We are exerting our best to ensure that all services being rendered by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority continue to be provided," Binay said.

He pointed out that the heads of MMDA operating units are on a 24-hour alert to provide assistance to local officials.

Binay placed particular emphasis on the collection of garbage accumulated on the streets of the metropolis since the start of the year.
The chairman noted that entry into the San Mateo landfill has started to normalize during the past few days with at least 70 percent of the trucks resuming use of the facility without any resistance.

It is widely known that majority of the mayors of Metro Manila are supportive of President Estrada.
