Prosecutor, son survive ambush

Two unidentified men armed with caliber .45 pistols waylaid a Manila City prosecutor and his son in Ermita, Manila, the other night.

Fortunately, Manila Prosecutor Domingo Orda Jr., 55; and his son Dale, 22; survived the attack. Dale, who was wounded in the incident, is now confined in an undisclosed hospital.

According to Chief Inspector Arturo Paglinawan, head of the WPD General Assignments Section (GAS), the victims, both of 34 Vietnam St., Better Living Subdivision, Parañaque City, were driving home aboard their gray Mitsubishi Lancer with plate number TEM-427, when the incident happened at about 8:45 p.m. at the corner of C. Ayala and San Marcelino streets

Police said the car was slowing down on a red light when the gunmen appeared aboard a motorcycle and opened fire with two caliber .45 pistols.

Dale who was seated in the car’s rear seat, was wounded after the attackers opened fire at the car’s right rear door. The elder Orda, who was driving, was not hit.

Bystanders rushed the young Orda to the hospital, along with his father, while the suspects fled. According to police, it was usually the younger Orda who drives the car.

Probers are verifying whether the ambush stemmed from a controversial case handled by the elder Orda.

The police said the gunmen, who will be charged with frustrated homicide and attempted homicide, are now the objects of a manhunt by the WPD.

Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man, besieged with financial problems, allegedly killed himself the other day in Valenzuela City.

Francisco Mandiolo, of 6147 Kalye 2, Gen. T. De Leon, Valenzuela, was found dead by his son Gilbert, 20, inside his room.

Gilbert told investigators that he found his father hanging from the ceiling at about 7 a.m. with a blanket tied around his neck.

He rushed the victim to the Valenzuela General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Reports showed that Mandiolo had been having money problems for quite some time. The victim allegedly waited for his wife to leave for work before hanging himself.

Investigators are conducting follow-up operations to determine the real cause of the incident, and to make sure no foul play was involved. – Mike Frialde and Matthew Estabillo
