Makati plan to help underprivileged

The Makati Social Services Department (MSSD) kicked off the year by spearheading an outreach community program to benefit the underprivileged residents of Makati.
Dubbed as "Expanded-Joint Efforts to Serve the Barangays (E-JESB)," Mayor Elenita Binay said that city social workers and volunteers will visit residents in their respective homes and barangays to extend medical check-up to senior citizens, distribute wheelchairs and crutches to the disabled and issue yellow cards.
"The city government through the E-JESB will go to the homes of residents instead of the residents going to the city hall to avail of basic services," Binay said.
Binay said the first E-JESB undertaking for the year would be held today at Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo from 7 a.m. to 12 noon. Among the activities lined-up are the hot soup feeding and library outreach project for children up to 12 years old, the "Dance for a Healthy Life" program for senior citizens and women, and the giving of birthday cakes to senior citizens.
All residents will also gain from the "Tiangge para sa Serbisyong Pangkalusugan" where immunization, CVD screening, diabetic screening, dental and other medical services will be offered for free.
Filing of application for the Makati Student Loan Program and Bigay Pagmamahal Scholarship, listing of pre-nursery and pre-elementary students and vaccination of dogs will likewise be facilitated by social workers and volunteers.
