Don’t dump trash along C-5 road, Papa pleads

-
Taguig Mayor Ricardo Papa called on mayors of neighboring towns and cities to ensure that their garbage contractors properly dispose of their collected trash.

Papa made the plea in a radio interview where he revealed that a number of drivers of mini-trucks caught dumping trash along Circumferential 5 (C-5) Road turned out to be garbage contractors of Quezon City, Makati City and Parañaque.

"I am appealing to my fellow mayors. We should not dump our garbage in other people’s backyards. If every town and city does this, we will all be inundated with each other’s garbage. We should all dispose of our garbage properly," Papa said.

The mayor revealed that a stretch of C-5 was not the only area in the town that had been turned into a dumpsite by unscrupulous residents and erring garbage contractors but also a large lot at the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) compound near the highway.

Papa said their town police cannot guard against improper dumping of trash round the clock as they only have two prowl cars.

Papa’s administration, particularly the town’s garbage contractor, Southport Transport, now faces the burden of conducting a clean-up of C-5 and other Taguig areas where hills of garbage have mushroomed from illegal and improper dumping of trash.

Earlier it was reported that large-scale illegal and improper dumping of trash had gone unchecked on the whole stretch of C-5 which has remained unlit due to the repeated theft of cables intended for road lights.

The darkness along the highway has been used by people to hide their improper dumping of trash at night. Rainier Allan Ronda
