A mailman was arrested by operatives of the Central Police District for dumping opened letters in a trash can in the vicinity of his residence in Quezon City the other day.
Arrested was Meinard Quano, an emergency letter courier of Philpost, who is now detained at the Quezon City Jail. Charges of theft are set to be filed against him at the Quezon City Prosecutors Office.
Police Superintendent Ernesto Tesoro, CPD-Station 9 (Anonas) commander, said his men caught the suspect dumping opened letters near the latters residence at 35 Tampoy Street, Project 2, Quezon City at around 6 p.m.
The Anonas police station was tipped off by an informant that a mailman in their neighborhood had been dumping voluminous matter for the last few days prompting him to observe the activity of the Philpost employee.
Tesoro said his men arrested Quano who was about to burn at least 54 opened letters which he dumped in the trash can to destroy the evidence against him.
The letters came from the United States, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hongkong, India, Hawaii, Amsterdam, New South Wales, Japan, Korea, Ceska Republic, Germany, Taiwan, China and England. Most of the letters came from Filipinos abroad who have relatives and friends in the country. Pia Lee-Brago
