Guard crushed to death

-
A security guard was crushed to death over the weekend by a 10-wheeler truck in a dimly lit portion of the company compound he was guarding in Marikina City.

The body of the victim, Gil Nacional, 46, of Sigasig Security Agency, of 3 Alley 21, Balibad St., Barangay Parang, was discovered by his fellow guards in a dark alley some two hours after the incident.

The truck driver, Gregorio Navea, 40, was unaware that he had accidentally killed Nacional. He was roused from sleep by the victims’ fellow guards and informed of the accident.

Police prober SPO1 Rizal Picayo said Navea, a native of Laguna, said he parked his 10-wheeler truck (plate number PRA 367) outside the Grand Cargo Warehouse in Santan St., Barangay Parang at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Navea, he went to sleep inside the truck because he was scheduled to leave at 12 midnight to deliver dried tobacco leaves to Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Navea, however, could not sleep soundly because of mosquitoes and decided to transfer the truck to a lighted area where mosquitoes were fewer.

While maneuvering his truck, Navea felt the truck was dragging something. He said he failed to stop and investigate, thinking it was only bundles of garbage that got stuck in the truck’s tires and went back to sleep. He surrendered to the police after being informed of the guard’s death.

The truck, owned by Rapid Movers, a company belonging to taipan Lucio Tan, was impounded by police investigators.— Non Alquitran
