Former Mayor Walfrido "Wally" Ferrer has announced that he has decided to put aside his pride and agreed to become former Mayor Pablo Olivarez’s running mate in the coming local polls.
"I have decided to make the supreme sacrifice so that Mayor Olivarez and I can create a formidable tandem and put an end to the current poorly-led and scandal-ridden administration," Ferrer said.
The team up of the two former mayors will be made formal with the oath-taking of Ferrer and his supporters into the LAMP party, the chairman of which is Olivarez, who will be making his third bid to regain the mayoralty.
Olivarez lost to Marquez twice in the 1995 and 1998 elections. He won and served as mayor from 1992 to 1995.
Ferrer, on the other hand, won as mayor in the 1988 elections and lost to Olivarez in 1992. He aspired for the city’s lone congressional seat in the 1998 elections but lost to incumbent Rep. Roilo Golez.
In earlier interviews, Marquez said he was looking forward to trouncing Olivarez again in the 2001 polls.
Olivarez, however, expressed confidence that his team-up with Ferrer, along with the growing dissatisfaction of Parañaqueños with Marquez’s administration, will finally regain for him the mayoralty. – Rainier Allan Ronda
