Suspect Roberto Legazpi of Adante Street, Barangay Tañong, is now detained at the Malabon police detention cell, and will be facing charges of homicide.
Legazpis surrender marks the end of a week-long manhunt operation against him, after he shot and killed his own uncle, Melencio Buenaventura, 52, on Dec. 4 in San Agustin, Malabon.
The victim was the brother of former Malabon police chief Superintendent Dante Buenaventura.
Reports showed that the incident took place at about 12:30 am while the victim was sleeping on the second floor of his house along Sacristia Street, San Agustin.
Buenaventura was awakened by a commotion downstairs and as he went down to check, he saw the suspect waving a 9 mm pistol at him.
Legazpi did not give the victim a chance to react as he shot him. Buenaventura died at the Chinese General Hospital.
Investigation showed that Legazpi allegedly shot his uncle over a family dispute. The victims estranged wife Ofelia told authorities that Buenaventura had an altercation with her sister Anita, the suspects mother.
Anita reportedly blamed the victims son Joey for intentionally burning their house that triggered a fire in a squatters colony in Barangay Tañong. The fire killed two people, and injured at least four others and razed at least 100 shanties and left hundreds of families homeless. Matthew Estabillo
