Cab driver shot in road rage incident

Road rage was tagged as the likely motive behind the shooting of a taxi driver at the busy Pasay Rotunda in Pasay City Wednesday night.

Victim Raymundo Villaruel, 39, married, resident of 25 Baluyot st., Barangay Krus na Ligas, Quezon City, is now in critical condition at the San Juan de Dios Hospital due to a gunshot wound in the face.

The gunman, on the otherhand, remained unidentified by police, but witnesses said he sped off in a blue Toyota Corolla with plate number NAK-512.

Investigation showed the incident occurred at around 10 p.m. while Villaruel was driving his taxicab with plate number WJV-709, at the corner of EDSA and Taft Avenue.

Villaruel was stopped in traffic at the Pasay Rotunda when the gunman got off his car, walked to the side of Villaruel’s cab and shot him.

After the shooting, the gunman ran back to his car and sped off while bystanders rushed Villaruel to the hospital.

Probers said Villaruel and his assailant may have been involved in a traffic altercation earlier, resulting to the shooting. – Rainier Allan Ronda
