In a press briefing, CPD district director Chief Superintendent Victor Luga presented the suspects, all "Warays" from Northern Samar, who were cornered by a police car crew on Aurora Boulevard corner Katipunan Road, Quezon City at around 3:20 a.m.
Luga identified them as Gilmor Bolanos, 28, laborer, of Unit 32 Temporary Housing Building 17, Tondo, Manila; Jessie Calda, 29 taxi driver; Ronald Tejas, 29, laborer, of the squatters area in Vitas, Tondo, Manila; and Federico Morallos, 30, taxi driver, of Block 4, Lot 14, San Lucas Street, Tondo, Manila.
The police patrol which cornered the four-man armed gang were composed of Senior Police Officer Rodolfo Cariaga, Senior Police Officer 2 Gilbert Santos, and Police Officer 1 Roberto Manalo.
Inspector Anthony Rodolfo, District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU) chief, said two cal. 38 home-made revolvers, seven .38 caliber bullets, a fragmentation hand grenade and two fan knives were found in the possession of the suspects who were on board a Remnald taxi with plate number PVZ-227.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to at least four robberies, the first one being last August when a certain "Aling Baby" of Recto Avenue, Manila, was divested of P25,000 in cash.
They also admitted robbing two Indian nationals in Manila as well as the robbery of payroll money in Pasig City.
Charges of violation of P.D. 1866 or illegal possession of firearms were filed yesterday against the suspects with the Quezon City Prosecutors Office. Pia Lee Brago
