A ranking leader of the New Peoples Army in the Bicol region surrendered yesterday to Central Police District (CPD) director Superintendent Victor Luga over the weekend.
NPA Commander Salvador Golimlim, alias Ka Robert, decided to stop fighting the government and walked back to the fold of the law.
Luga said Chief Inspector Anthony Rodolfo, District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU) chief, arranged for Golimlims surrender after the former NPA commander signified his intention to yield through another NPA leader who earlier surrendered to Quezon City Mayor Ismael Mathay Jr. on Oct. 6.
Golimlim said he left the life in the mountains and surrendered because he wanted to live a peaceful life and be part of a democratic society.
Luga disclosed that Golimlim was responsible for a number of ambuscades and raids on military detachments and also abductions in Sorsogon, while serving in the communist movement as political officer for the "Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda" and group leader of the "Squad Yunit Propaganda" and "Giyang Pampulitika" in Sorsogon since 1992.
