Police get own website

To strengthen its commitment to serve the public, the Philippine National Police (PNP) launched yesterday its official Internet website at police headquarters in Camp Crame.

"The PNP website is part of the PNP’s efforts to reach out to the community," said PNP chief Director General Panfilo Lacson who led yesterday’s launching of the website, www.pnp.info.gov.ph.

According to Lacson, the PNP’s access to the World Wide Web is made possible through the Philippine Long Distance Company (PLDT), which provided a toll-free dial-up connection for its terminals.

"The site contains relevant information about the PNP such as its history, legislated mandate, organizational structure, and directory of police units from the national headquarters down to municipal police stations nationwide," Lacson said.

PLDT president and chief executive officer Manuel Pangilinan and Lacson signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday in connection with the project.

The PNP website, which is linked with the Philippine Government’s Electronic Interconnection or the RP Web, is maintained by the PNP’s computer service under Senior Superintendent Quirino dela Torre. – Christina Mendez
