Caloocan man kills self after losing horse bets

-
After betting on horses and losing money, a 20-year-old man hanged himself inside his house yesterday morning in Caloocan City.

The victim, Renato Alejo, a resident of 123 Second Street, Fourth Avenue, Caloocan, was found hanging by a noose around his neck in his room.

Police investigators also found a suicide note where the victim asked his parent’s forgiveness. At the same time, authorities got hold of Alejo’s horse racing programs.

Reports said the victim bet on race horses last Sunday using money his parents gave him to buy rice. Alejo however, failed to win a single bet.

Dejected, he went back to his house and immediately retired to his room. Police said the victim used a nylon cord to hang himself.

It was only the following morning that the victim’s parents found their son hanging from the ceiling.

Operatives of the Caloocan City police, however, are still investigating if foul play was involved.

Meanwhile, fed up with unruly street children loitering in front of the fastfood chain he was guarding, a security guard fired a warning shot into the air and injured a 33-year-old bystander the other day in Malabon.

The suspect, Felix Aguilar, 21, a security guard of a food outlet in Barangay Tanong, Malabon, voluntarily surrendered to police.

Victim Antonio Alejandro, 33, suffered a gunshot wound in the body and was taken to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon where he underwent medical treatment.

Police reports said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. just outside the establishment on Rizal Avenue in Barangay Tanong.Matthew Estabillo
