Fil-Am in sex case extradited

-
A Filipino-American sex offender, who was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation for a series of sexual assaults in Santa Clara, California, will be extradited to the United States on Friday.

According to NBI director Federico Opinion, suspect Henry Manuel Uy, 34, a businessman and native of Bilar, Bohol, will be deported to the United States to face a string of criminal charges filed against him.

Uy was arrested by agents of the NBI-International Police (Interpol) last Oct. 12 at his condominium unit at the Citihomes Regency in Parañaque City on the strength of an arrest warrant by Manila Judge Amelia Tria-Infante.

According to the NBI, Uy allegedly committed four counts of sexual assault, including penetration by a foreign object on a minor. One of the cases against him was filed by the father of a girl he allegedly raped.

A US court issued a warrant for Uy’s arrest but he fled to the Philippines last Jan. 15. As such, the US Justice Department asked the country’s Department of Justice to effect the arrest of Uy through the NBI. – Mike Frialde and Jose Aravilla
