A policeman undergoing a physical fitness examination, as required by Philippine National Police chief, Director General Panfilo Lacson, died after he collapsed at Camp Crames parade ground yesterday morning.
SPO3 Ricardo Ones, 34 of the PNP Civil Security Group (CSG) died while being taken to the camps hospital. He was performing the last stage of the physical fitness examination, which is a one kilometer jog-walk together with colleagues, when he collapsed.
"He had already passed the first two stages of physical tests when he registered four pull-ups, 15 sit-ups and 20 push-ups and was negotiating the first 300 meters of the one-kilometer jog-walk when he fell down," PNP spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome said.
The PNP Crime Laboratory is now conducting an autopsy on Ones cadaver to determine the real cause of his death.
According to Superintendent Adriel Guerrero, the PNP physician who supervised yesterdays fitness test, Ones was first examined before he was allowed to take the physical examination.
He said that as standard operating procedure, a PNP personnel must first undergo a medical check-up before being allowed to take the physical tests. Jaime Laude
