Malabon trader freed by captors after 3 days

A Filipino-Chinese businessman, who was abducted by five armed men three days ago in Malabon, was freed by his abductors Tuesday night in Pampanga, reports said.

Superintendent Ernesto Fojas, Malabon police chief, said Steward Chu, 31, son of the owner of Malabon Mirror Company, returned home safely at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim’s mother, Angela Chu, whom the police said refused to cooperate with the investigation, claimed that no ransom was paid for her son’s release.

Fojas added that his men tried to talk with Chu but he refused to see the cops.

Chu, of 42 Pineapple Road, Barangay Potrero, Malabon, was abducted before dawn Sunday while about to enter their compound’s gate.

The suspects reportedly disarmed a security guard and fled with the victim using the Chu’s family vehicle.

The victim’s car, a white Ford F150 van with plate number WCS-242 was later abandoned by his abductors along Kasoy Road in Potrero.

"I doubt if there was really no ransom money paid," a police officer said. – Pete Laude
