A high school student committed suicide yesterday early morning in their house in Quezon City over fears that his father would punish him for dropping out of school.
The lifeless body of Marlon Devila, 14, a student of San Diego Elementary School, was found inside the bathroom of their house on Block 9, Lot 1, Sunnyside Subdivision, Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
Baby Devila, younger sister of the victim, found the body at around 6 a.m. when she went inside the comfort room to take a bath before going to school. The Devilas are caretakers of the bungalow type house owned by a certain Virginia Trinidad.
Baby said her brother may have died of drug overdose as shown by the empty bottles of medicines found inside her brothers room.
Investigation showed that the victim had not attended classes for five weeks and feared that his father would learn about his absences in school.
According to Baby, their mother threatened the victim that she would tell their father that he had stopped attending classes.
Baby said her brother refused to leave their house even if his friends wanted to see him since he stopped going to school. Pia Lee-Brago
