Talisay birthday party turns violent; 1 wounded

CEBU, Philippines - A 29-year-old man was wounded after he was shot by his uncle while they were attending a birthday party in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City on Tuesday.

The victim, Jerrry Llanto, single, resident of said place, sustained gunshot wound to the left portion of his body. He was reportedly shot by his uncle, Ranulfo Llanto, 42, married.

Police Officer 3 Ferdinand Pablo of Talisay City Police Station said the victim and the suspect were attending a birthday party in their neighbor’s house before the incident took place.

In the middle of drinking, a heated argument sparked between the victim and his uncle. The other visitors alleged that the victim was armed with a knife.

Pablo said the suspect might have been afraid of getting stabbed so he shot the victim with the use of .9mm caliber pistol.

The victim was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and was already recuperating as of this writing.

Yesterday, Llanto was arrested by the authorities during a follow-up operation.

Police confiscated the suspect’s firearm with five live ammunition. Appropriate charges will be filed against him.  (FREEMAN)
