Fire destroys parked van, DPWH office
CEBU, Philippines – An abandoned vehicle parked along the street in Barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City burst to fire yesterday noon, affecting the nearby office of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Senior Fire Officer 2 Nilo Cosido of Mandaue City Fire Department pegged the damage at P10,000.
Cosido said the fire came from the abandoned van of NBN, a government-owned television station, which has become a playground to streetchildren. He said the kids were "possibly" playing with fire which later ate up the combustible materials of the van.
"Dili ni electrical wiring ang problema kay wa naman ni wiring ug battery, gihimulbulan naman ni. So posible, nagduwa og kayo ang mga bata, unya nasunog ang mga foam sa sakyanan," Cosido said.
Since the DPWH wall is just so near the abandoned van, the fire gobbled up the light materials of the building. Cosido said the fire managed to destroy the ceiling area.
According to Cosido, the fire was reported at 12:23p.m. and was declared under control about seven minutes after, and fireout at 12:50p.m. (FREEMAN)
