Naga unveils three new projects
CEBU, Philippines – Three big projects were formally unveiled in the City of Naga yesterday, including a standard rubberized track and field oval, a modern market and a tennis court.
Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the track and field oval is open for all who want to get fit or those who are sports enthusiasts.
He said residents of the city who wish to use the oval will be pay P10 and are entitled to a 20 percent discount. There will be no discount for the people coming from other municipalities and cities, he said.
The track and field oval is located at the Naga City Central School. The cost of the project reached P60 million and the city will be disbursing additional funds for the construction of the grandstand.
Mayor Chiong led the ceremonial walk at the oval yesterday morning, together with different members of an organization of runners.
The construction of the oval was earlier criticized by Fr. Robert Reyes, dubbed as the "running priest," as well as by a city councilor who showed opposition to plans to cut down trees.
Meanwhile, the city released P60 million of the construction of the modern market.
Mayor Chiong said the new market with complete facilities could provide vendors with additional income when it operates.
The city also unveiled the new tennis court. Chiong said they are looking forward to construct more courts for other sports activities in the city.
Naga City is expected to host the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association next year. (FREEMAN)
