Mandaue seniors get cash gifts

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – At least 4,000 senior citizens in the six barangays of Mandaue City each received their cash incentive of P1,500 yesterday.

Congressman Luigi Quisumbing, Vice Mayor Glen Bercede and Councilor Neneta Layese led the ceremonial turnover of the cash incentives in Barangay Subangdaku gym.

This was the second time they received the same amount this year. The first tranche was granted last June.

Yesterday’s beneficiaries were senior citizens from Barangays Subangdaku, Tipolo, Bakilid 1 and 2, Banilad and Casuntingan.

Subangdaku had the highest number of recipients at 1,500.

Public information officer Roger Paller said the city’s senior citizens will get P6,000 each to be given in three tranches next year.

This after the City Council, via the proposal of Councilor Demetrio Cortes Jr., approved last month an ordinance doubling their cash gifts.

Those who received yesterday were just part of the first batch of the 27 barangays to receive the same benefits.

Today, city officials will hand over the cash gifts to senior citizens in Barangays Ibabao-Estancia, Alang-Alang, Opao, Looc, Paknaan and Labogon.

Paller said the distribution will be held in their respective barangay halls or gymnasiums and will start at 9 a.m. (FREEMAN)
