Barangay tanod ‘shoots self’ over relationship woes

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – After learning that his wife was allegedly involved in an affair with another man, a 50-year-old barangay tanod reportedly shot himself Friday morning inside their house in Sitio Sawsawan, Barangay San Roque, Talisay City.

Ramon Pagobo died instantaneously. He was said to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor when he pulled out his firearm and pointed it to his head.

Police Officer 3 Oliver Ortega, investigator at Talisay City Police Station, told The FREEMAN Pagobo discovered his wife allegedly cheated on him, prompting him to handle the problem by taking in liquor.

"Naproblema siya sa iyang asawa kay lagi iyang nahibaw-an nga adunay laing lalaki," PO3 Ortega said.

At the time of the incident, Pagobo was in their kitchen, together with his children Aljenric, 15, and Stefanie, 14.

Suddenly, Pagobo pulled out his .38 revolver and told his children that he was committing suicide before pointing the firearm to his head.

Pagobo's children tried to stop him but they were too late since he already pulled the trigger.

Authorities recovered the .38 revolver with two live ammunitions and one empty shell inside its cylinder.

Ortega believed that Pagobo killed himself as he could not accept the fact that his wife had an illicit affair with another man. However, he said they have yet to confirm such reports. (FREEMAN)
